Facebook generated more than £2 billion for the UK economy last year and created an “app economy” worth in excess of £500 million to developers, a new report has revealed.
The world’s biggest social network commissioned Deloitte to conduct the study, which found that Facebook added €2.6 billion (£2.17bn) to Britain in 2011 and supported 35,200 jobs.
Published to coincide with the DLD conference in Munich today, the report also revealed that Facebook had an economic impact of €15.3 billion across the European Union last year, sustaining a total of 232,000 jobs.
