Coronation Street actress Shobna Gulati has left Twitter after she received a torrent of racial abuse.
The soap star, 44, has apparently been bombarded with race hate messages over the past couple of weeks after building up 18,467 followers.
Her departure from the social networking site comes a week after she expressed her shock at receiving racial abuse.
Referring to her followers as “Tweet ta di do das”, last week she said: ‘Errrrr twitter abuse? Not bothered really just surprised at the racial abuse and desire to try and hurt people for no reason.
‘Thanks for the support tweet ta di do das. I think I’m giving twitter a wee rest… gob smacked.’
Shobna, who plays Sunita Alahan in the ITV1 soap, finally left the site this week, bidding farewell to her loyal fans.
She tweeted: ‘Tweet ta di do das thanks for the follows . Thanks for the banter I’ve enjoyed my time on twitter. Over and out.’
Shobna is of Indian decent and is a vocal anti-racism campaigner recently working with groups of young people in Oldham, Manchester.
