Whitney Houston, who reigned as pop music’s queen until her majestic voice and regal image were ravaged by drug use, erratic behavior and a tumultuous marriage to singer Bobby Brown, has died. She was 48.
Publicist Kristen Foster said Saturday that the singer had died, but the cause and the location of her death were unknown.
CNN earlier reported that on-off boyfriend R&B singer Ray J found Whitney dead on Saturday at the Beverly Hilton Hotel, but it soon emerged it was Whitney’s bodyguard also named ‘Ray’ that found her dead in the hotel room bathtub according to hotel staff.
A spokesperson for the Beverly Hills police department stated that Whitney was pronounced dead at 3:55PM PST. There were no obvious signs of any criminal intent, and the Beverly Hills police is currently investigating. The police attempted CPR but were unsuccessful.
TMZ report that Whitney Houston ”partied heavily” at the Beverly Hilton hotel with a group of friends hotel staff told TMZ. We’re told Whitney and her friends were in the bar for a time and the group was drinking and very loud. Our sources say even though the hotel is busy with all the Grammy festivities, Whitney and her group stood out because they were so boisterous.
Beverly Hills Police Lt. Mark Rosen said there were “no obvious signs of criminal intent” and that the cause of her death is being investigated.
Whitney was set to attend a Clive Davis’ pre-Grammy party this evening.
