Yasmin Chaudhry from Norway killed her one-year-old baby by plunging her into a bucket of water during a 3am Skype video call with her British partner.
Chaudhry, 26, said she had just wanted to discipline her baby for waking up and ‘disobeying her’.
She told paramedics that the baby had fallen into the bucket by accident, according to a report in The Sun. The girl was pronounced dead the next day.
But after being arrested on suspicion of murder, Chaudhry claimed that her boyfriend – who is not the child’s father – told her to do it.
Both she and the Briton, who she met over the internet, deny wanting to kill the baby.
‘They have the same story, but with some differences,’ police prosecutor Kristin Rusdel told the newspaper.
‘She says he instructed her to do it, whereas he says that they more or less figured it out together after talking about how to discipline her.
‘He says the intention was never to kill the child. They were both very scared and decided to cover it up.
The baby’s father now lives in Pakistan after splitting with the mother.
His lawyer said: ‘He is, of course, very shocked.’

Nurses at New York’s St Luke’s Roosevelt hospital are said to have been told to prepare for a celebrity VIP.
It is thought the 30-year-old singer and husband Jay Z could be welcoming a child as early as today according to MediaTakeOut.com.
The website reports that the half the floor of the hospital’s Labor and Delivery Suite has been booked by the singer, although the hospital has not confirmed the claims.

Amitabh Bachchan has denied stories that Aishwarya Rai Bachchan had a caesarean section, saying Aishwarya had a normal delivery – without epidural or painkillers.
He tweeted: “The often coined phrase ‘too posh to push’ was put to rest in her case. She was determined to do it the way she felt was correct!”
Amitabh Bachchan has vowed he will not post an image of Aishwarya & Abhishek’s baby girl and has also been upset by some media posting made-up images of the baby.
“Many morphed pictures of the ‘little one’ with her mother in hospital doing the rounds on the net… all fake!!” Big b tweeted.
“Many asking for the picture of the baby ..I am afraid that is not going to happen … too personal .. you will understand ..thank you” he added.
Abhishek Bachchan has spoken about being a parent and understanding what it’s like being a father!
He also spoke about how Aishwarya Rai is coping much better with the early mornings, describing her as a ‘super trooper’ ‘bionic’ mother!
Abhishek tweeted the following message on his twitter page:
“How do women/mothers do it? I’m walking around like a zombie and the Mrs. Is like a super trooper with a bit of bionic woman thrown in!!!
Just as I step into fatherhood and parenthood, I’ve never seen myself rely and depend on my parents more. Guess that happens with every new Parent. And I finally understand why they still at the age of 35 treat me like a baby and cannot accept that I’m a grown man today.
Much like my father @SrBachchan I too spent the day observing every little thing about the little one. But my greatest observation I don’t think I’ll be any different.”
Amitabh Bachchan is nothing but thrilled with the news of his new granddaughter that he describes her features on his blog!
“The soft innocence of nature rests in my arms, oblivious of what else happens around her. Occasionally she opens her large and what looks now to be eyes of the lighter hue, which those that have dealt with similar, know shall change with time,” he said.
“Often the gentlest of smiles quiver across her pouted upper lip, the shut eyes bringing expression through the brows and the settling down to that dream she must dream. I stare at her in silence. She reciprocates in similar vein. It is too delicate a moment,” he added.
Abhishek Bachchan just can’t hide his excitement on the arrival of his new baby girl, and who can blame him!
