Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor tied the knot today in a quiet ceremony after a five-year relationship.
Saif, 42, son of late Nawab of Pataudi and former Indian cricket captain Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi and actress Sharmila Tagore, sealed his relationship with Kareena, 32, at his house in suburban Bandra through a registered marriage.
“It was a registered marriage with three witnesses — Ms Kareena’s father Randhir Kapoor, her mother Babita and Mr Saif’s mother Sharmila,” marriage Registrar Surekha Ramesh told PTI.
The couple who started dating in 2007, married in the presence of close friends and family this afternoon.
Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor are set to marry on October 16 this year!
Saif Ali Khan’s mother Sharmila Tagore confirmed the date and the location which will be at the Pataudi family home.
“Yes, that’s the date we have decided upon. There will be a reception too but not a very big one,” said Tagore.
According to sources, the wedding ceremony will be a low-key affair.
“Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi died only recently, so the family wanted a low-key wedding. Kareena and her family agreed too,” an insider said.
“However, there may be a large reception bash after the wedding, considering both Saif and Kareena have many friends in the film industry.”
Kareena Kapoor has said she will get married to Saif Ali Khan by the end of the year.
“I will get married hopefully by the end of this year… because I am busy doing Heroine and I have to finish the film first.
“We are not yet going to announce the date. We are in no such rush, but it will happen this year,” said Kapoor, who was in Delhi to attend the India Today Conclave.
Saif Ali Khan has reportedly been arrested by Mumbai police, following an altercation at the Taj Palace Hotel in Colaba.
Khan is to have punched complainant Iqbal Nadim Sharma, who had made a request for Ali Khan’s table to lower their volume levels, Reuters reports.
“He said you are an idiot. Don’t you know who I am? If you want peace and quiet, go to a library,” claimed Sharma.
South African businessman Sharma is said to have sustained a nose bone fracture following the argument. His father-in-law was also injured during the proceedings on Tuesday evening.
Ali Khan has been booked under the Indian Penal Code 325 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt), sources report.
‘I could have reacted differently. I could have been a little more Gandhian in my approach. But I’m afraid I reacted in a way any gentleman would have reacted.’ Saif said.
“But I’m not proud of what happened. It could have been handled differently. I should have set a better example. I’m sorry that I reacted this way.”
He added: “People assume that just because you are a film star, you are a spoilt brat…I feel like I have been aggressed upon.”
Saif Ali Khan has confirmed that he will marry long-term girlfriend Kareena Kapoor next year.
He told The Times of India: “Kareena and I will definitely get married by early next year.
“We plan to get married in February 2012 after Agent Vinod releases, but if the film’s release gets delayed we will still get married by March. We won’t postpone the marriage beyond that anymore.
“Kareena is a wonderful girl and we are extremely compatible. My family and she have always got along well. We share the same values in life, love each other completely and I want to spend more time with her. I am looking forward to the marriage now.”
It’s been reported that Kareena Kapoor & Saif Ali Khan could be set to postpone their 2012 wedding as Saif’s cricket legend father, Mansur Ali Khan Pataudi, passed away last week.
Saif had earlier said that he would make an official announcement about the wedding date after the release of his movie ‘Agent Vinod’. There were reports that the couple planned to tie the knot in Fenruary 2012, and Saif’s sister Soha had confirmed the same when she said a few weeks ago that she could ‘hardly wait for the wedding next year.”
Now, after the passing away of his dad, the family will supposedly not have any celebrations for the next one year.
This means that Saif and Kareena can only get married towards the end of 2012 or perhaps even in 2013.

“Ritu Kumar has a longstanding relationship with Saif’s mum Sharmila Tagore, who has also walked the ramp for her on several occasions,” a source told the newspaper.
“Kumar even photographed Sharmila and Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi for her coffee table on the costumes and textiles of Indian royalty in the ’90s, where Sharmila wore the traditional Bhopali farshi paijama and dupatta that she wore on her wedding day in December 1969.”
